The Anointing of the Holy Spirit
(Read Psalm 92 & Philippians 2)

Job 29:1-6 And Job again took up his discourse and said,2“Oh that I were as in months gone by, As in the days when God watched over me;3When His lamp shone over my head, And by His light I walked through darkness;4As I was in £the prime of my days,When the friendship of God was over my tent; 5When the Almighty was yet with me,And my children were around me;6When my steps were bathed in butter, And the rock poured out for me streams of oil!

(Job remembers when God watched over him – like one who hovers over the nest, the butter of God girding up a hedge of protection around him and all the things that mattered to him in the natural. He was speaking about supernatural protection.)

Exodus 40:9-10 “Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its furnishings; and it shall be holy. 10“You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.

(We come under the canopy of protection of God when we commit everything in our lives to him. Just like when Moses anointed the instruments and utensils in the holy place, so we can commit and anoint our family, possessions, finances and every detail of our lives.)

Job 29:3 3When His lamp shone over my head, And by His light I walked through darkness
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Ephesians 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

(Job remembers the anointed days when the lamp shown upon his head and when by God’s light he walked through darkness. The light is wisdom and revelation from God’s word.)

Job 29:4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
Exodus 33:11 Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

(Job experienced the same kind of friendly council that Moses did when God spoke to Moses face to face. Council was waiting for Job every morning; it was right there; revelation, council and the secrets of the Lord. Job knew what to do because revelation lead him through the darkness.)

Job 29:6 When my path was drenched with cream, And the rock poured out for me streams of olive oil!

(The word “cream” brings to mind the cream of the crop or the choicest part. Also cream can be changed into butter and cream rises to the top. When Job describes his steps bathed in cream what he is putting into words is the fatness, the abundance and the fruitfulness; just how rich and intence the anointing was on his life and ministry.)

Isaiah 29:5 But the multitude of your enemies will become like fine dust,And the multitude of the ruthless ones like the chaff which blows away; And it will happen instantly, suddenly.
Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Psalm 94:14 For the LORD will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance.

(When Job says ‘when the Almighty was yet with me’ Job does not mean that God abandoned him. He meant that the Almighty was with him and was with him in such a dramatic way that everyone knew it.)

Psalm 27:13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.

(Job’s life was a living demonstration in the natural of the goodness of God in the land of the living. He was talking about the Almighty being the one who spread His wings over him but he realized that all the signs of God’s favor was gone and he was in a new season of suffering.)
