Spiritual Sensory Deprivation - 2
(Read 1 Samuel 9 & 10)

Isaiah 6:1 1In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.

(When King Uzziah dies Isaiah was shaken to his core. Isaiah was convinced that Uzziah was the key to the move of God in the nation. Now that the King was dead he lost sight of everything else and stared at an empty throne. One day he got his senses restored when he “saw” the King of glory sitting way up above things in His purple robe, draped over every square inch of the room. This points to God being in charge of every little inch of the kingdom.)

Isaiah 6:2-4 2Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” 4And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.

(Seraphim (burning ones) surrounding the throne at all points of the compass, at the sight of the real throne room and the angelic creatures crying out the attributes of the real king; Isaiah also feels the earth moving under his feet, because their voices have the power to cause the foundation of the doorway where he is standing, to tremble.)

Isaiah 6:5 5Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”

(The whole thing was such a rich sensory experience, and all too real, that he cried out and basically said this: “everything I thought was real is being reconstructed (I’m being undone – I am a man of unclean lips.) The Seraphim used their words to reconstruct the world Isaiah was living in. He saw that his words did not have the power of their words, and as a result; whatever he said was unclean in comparison to these creatures that SPOKE OUT OF THE IMEDIACY OF THE EXPERIENCE OF GOD. If we fail to allow God to awaken our senses we can not minister His presence and power in the world we live in.)

Isaiah 6:6-7 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7He touched my mouth with it and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven.”

(When Isaiah acknowledged he did not have what he thought he had, immediately he “tasted” a fire from the alter on his lips. This fire opened his taste buds and speech center to begin to speak in a way he had never spoken before. He received a cleansing, and a word of encouragement from the Seraphim and trusted that: 1. things were about to change. 2. He was on his way to a new level.)

Isaiah 6:8-10 8Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” 9 He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand.’ 10“Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”

(We are told, and not until then, (which was when he had seen, felt, smelt, and tasted) did he hear the voice of the Lord. Then Isaiah heard how God diagnosed the spiritual condition of His people, God said: 1. Even though they had eyes they could not see. 2. Even though they had ears they could not hear. 3. Even though they had hearts they could not feel and comprehend the person and presence of God.)

Isaiah 6:10-13 10“Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”11Then I said, “Lord, how long?” And He answered, “Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant, Houses are without people And the land is utterly desolate,12“The LORD has removed men far away,And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.13“Yet there will be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is felled. The holy seed is its stump.”

(God said that everything that had taken their senses and every living place that had become flat needs to be reconstructed and reduced down to being set on fire like the stump of a tree. Then that fire would be the power to re-awaken all their senses to the glory of God.)

Luke 24:13-16, 29-32 13And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was £about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. 29But they urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. 31Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

(On the road to Emmaus the two disciples experienced the Spirit of burning because Jesus:

1. Opened their minds and as a result caused them to feel the fire in their hearts.

2. He restored their sensory awareness and enabled them to “come to their senses.”

3. They “saw” Him, yet they did not recognize Him.

4. They “heard” Him yet they did not know Him. They begged Him to turn in with them when they got home; and there at the table they were set up to taste Him with the breaking of the bread; and when their senses were restored, He vanished from their sight; because now they were come to a place where they where come to “sense Him by the Spirit.” He split their minds open and released their hearts to experience the fullness they needed to live on.)
