Intercession

(Read Ephesians 6 & 1 John 4)

1 Samuel 19:20-24 20Then Saul sent messengers to take David, but when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing and presiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul; and they also prophesied. 21When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. So Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied. 22Then he himself went to Ramah and came as far as the large well that is in Secu; and he asked and said, “Where are Samuel and David?” And someone said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.” 23He proceeded there to Naioth in Ramah; and the Spirit of God came upon him also, so that he went along prophesying continually until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24He also stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

Micah 1:1,8 1The word of the LORD which came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. 8Because of this I must lament and wail, I must go barefoot and naked; I must make a lament like the jackals And a mourning like the ostriches.

The Lord never forces the believer to bear a burden unwillingly. He does, However, offend the mind in order to change the heart. The Lord communicates His burdens to intercessors through prompts or "Triggers" which come in many forms:

1. For no apparent reason you may sense a heaviness coming over you. Matthew 11:28-30  - 28“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

2. An overwhelming desire to weep comes suddenly and for no known reason. Romans 8:26 26 - In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

3. A mental picture of something or someone flashes into your mind. Acts 21:10-11 - 10As we were staying there for some days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”

4. An intense longing to be alone with God. Psalm 42:1-2 -  1 As the deer £pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

5. A dream. Acts 2:17-18 -  17‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams;18Even on My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My spirit And they shall prophesy.

6. A physical weakness. Daniel 8: 17,18,27  - 17So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end.”18Now while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and made me stand upright. 27Then I, Daniel, was exhausted and sick for days. Then I got up again and carried on the king’s business; but I was astounded at the vision, and there was none to explain it.

7. A dull headache. Romans 9:2  - 2that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.

8. A burning in the pit of the stomach. Luke 24:32 -  32They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

9. A sensation of feeling flushed. Isaiah 40:29-31 -  29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.30Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly,31Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

10. A small quite voice in your mind saying pray. Matthew 14:23 -  23After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. Luke 6:12 12It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

11. A sense of emergency. Daniel 7:15 -  15“As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within me, and the visions in my mind kept alarming me.

12. A flash of a name or face comes across your mind. Acts 10:10-14 -  10But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance; 11and he saw* the sky opened up, and an £object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground, 12and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and £crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air. 13A voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, kill and eat!” 14But Peter said, “By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean.”

When you identify a trigger, pray to God: “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.” (1Sam 3:10) Then agree with God in prayer and pray:

“Father, you have determined that we are to be partners in prayer and that you will act according to my prayer. You may want me to stand in the gap for something important for You. I agree with your plan; send your Holy Spirit to make a way were the enemy has brought spiritual blindness and hindrance. Come with a powerful breakthrough for your namesake. I know that you are more interested in my availability than my ability. I give myself to you. In Jesus name I give thanks and stand in agreement.
