2. Inheritance in Christ
Read Book of 1 Corinthians

Chapter 1
Paul points out the need of cleansing the church from party divisions, man-worship, and glorying in worldly wisdom.

Chapter 2
Human beings cannot discover God's wisdom on their own. But God has given us His written Word that tells us about Him and His nature. The Holy Spirit enables us to interpret His written Word. These two gifts from God lead us to understand "the mind of Christ."

Chapter 3
Quarreling of the Corinthians over human leadership shows they are immature in their spiritual development. God, not human leaders, is the source of wisdom and spiritual growth.
Jesus is the foundation on which every believer's life should be built. Each believer is a temple of the Holy Spirit, a place where God dwells. Jesus should be the focus of our lives. In Him alone -- not human leaders -- should we place our trust.

Chapter 4
Paul gives an example of discipleship - where he discipled Timothy and now Timothy is discipiling others in the body of Christ.

Chapter 5
Paul deals with the problem of sexual sin. He advises the church to exercise discipline by expelling the unrepentant sinner.
We are not to judge non-believers and isolate ourselves from them. Rather, we are to bear our witness fo Jesus before them. But we are called to withdraw from fellow believers who continue in willful sin.

Chapter 6
Paul reminds the Church at Corinth to cleanse themselves from litigation between fellow believers. Paul declares that sexual relationships outside the bonds of marriage are a perversion of God's plan.

Chapter 7
Paul answers questions from the Corinthians on the nature and meaning of marriage.

Chapter 8
Paul discusses eating meat that has been offered to idols; ie. abstaining from eating such meat if the practice offended weaker Christians.

Chapter 9
Pauls example of the surrender of certain personal rights and liberties for the sake of winning men to Christ.

Chapter 10
Paul warns to stay away from idol worship. Our freedom in the Lord should not blind us to the fact that we must avoid certain activities that hinder our Christian witness before others. We bring glory to God when we seek the good of others, not our individual rights.

Chapter 11
The poor were being discriminated against in the Lord's Supper because they had no food to bring. This added to the problem of factions in the Church. The Corinthians were descrating the Lord's Supper by turning it into a feast.

Chapter 12
Paul addresses the issue spiritual gifts: speaking in tongues, prophecy, working of miracles etc.

Chapter 13
Love ranks above hope and faith. "Love never fails."

Chapter 14
Paul declares that prophecy is actually more important than speaking in tongues because it builds up and edifies the church. Also the importance of maintaining proper order in the public assemblies.

Chapter 15
The reality of the Risen Christ; faith's reality.

Chapter 16
Paul's closing instructions and salutations.

3. Dunamis Life

Insensitivity To Spiritual Hearing

Hebrews 5:11 -- Concerning this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull in your (spiritual) hearing and sluggish (even slothful in achieving spiritual insight).

They were not in need of hearing aids; rather their inward man had digressed to become insensitive to spiritual things.

The Holy Spirit does not communicate to our head but to our spirit. You can be a believer for years and not develop your spirit.

Scripture tells us that John The Baptist "Grew and became strong in spirit". Regarding spiritual development, Paul told Timothy to give himself entirely to it "that your progress may be evident to all."

Luke 1:80 -- And the little boy grew and became strong in spirit.
