What do you do when life doesn’t turn out the way you pictured in your head? When you get hit right in the gut with a curveball of the unexpected! It’s easy to brace for a blow when you can see it coming, but there are going to be times in your life where things just don’t seem to make sense and that’s okay! This has been a season full of surprises and I hear the Lord telling me to “expect the unexpected.” Surprises are very difficult for people who are “planners” and like to know when, where, how, why and where things are going to happen. It puts a strain on hearing the voice of God when you like to have all your Tee’s crossed and I’s dotted, but fortunately the Lord likes to rock the comfort boat. I think I’ve spent a good amount of my life worrying about things that never came to pass and trying to control things that I had no control over. Our minds are analytical by nature and that’s great, but our mind was created to be a servant, not a master. If you have God figured out, then you’ve reduced God down to your size and short changed yourself from experiencing the fullness of all he wants to share with you! I’ve learned to let God be God and I can rest in being his son. It’s better this way, trust me!!  2 Corinthians 5:7- I walk by faith and not by the senses. It’s important to keep certain things in your life wrapped in mystery until the Lord wants to show you a new thing thru obedience, and faithfulness in the small things.

In TDCJ I developed a routine as a prisoner. At 3am they call breakfast, 11am lunch and dinner were usually around 4-5pm. They usually call rec (recreation), school, hoe squad, laundry, library, church, visitation around the same times every week so you can expect to stick to a schedule in TDCJ. Life on the outside is a little different. We have full time jobs that often change direction, positions, and locations. People unexpectedly get fired and start a new chapter in life at a new job. Life is full of unexpected situations and circumstances. How will you handle them when they arrive? John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus is saying that “in me you may have peace.” Peace is optional!? You may, or may not keep his peace in difficult situations, but it’s your choice? Nobody is ever ready for people to suddenly pass away in life or for natural disasters to leave people homeless and hopeless, but we can rest in the fact that God will never leave us, and he is for us and not against us. He said that he’s overcome the world and he is extending his hand out to us, so we can do the same. Take his hand.

Like a bull rider with no arms I tried to hang on daily as my life went thru a series of twists and turns that I never saw coming and then I came upon this scripture. Matthew 16:25 If you try to hang on to your life you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. LET IT GO!! It’s a no brainer really, your old life for new life! Death to life! We have no control over what happens in life, but we do have control over how we respond to it. It all boils down to this, I am completely united with Christ, no longer by being saved, by being good enough, or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting in Christ to save me. For Gods way of making me right with himself depends on FAITH counting on Christ alone. Rest in that. Proverbs 10:6 “Blessings are on the head of the righteous.” I expect to be blessed cause he said it!

The further you walk with God, the less you can take with you! You will start that marathon with baggage, but as the eyes of your understanding begin to open, things that were never yours to begin with (anger, worry, doubt, shame, unforgiveness, guilt, etc..) begin to fall off until you’re light as a feather. The new covenant is all about salvation by FAITH from first to last! Romans 10:9 says “That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.” You accept this amazing grace by faith! The child of God works not for life, but from life; he does not work to be saved, he works because he is saved! When the light of revelation comes on that God has forgiven you of all your sins, loves you unconditionally and that you will spend eternity in the presence of the glory of the Lord forever and ever, you’ll never be the same..
